i'm a MMORPG widow

Friday, a box from eMachines appeared in the family room, where the old computer resides. I knew the end was near.

A week or so ago, in a fit of technology-driven frustration, I asked him to forgive me for spending money to buy In Visible Silence by Art of Noise to soothe my soul (I was yearning for "Camilla: The Old, Old Story") which is out of print and therefore expensive. He agreed, and in turn asked if he could get a new CPU, since our current one is so old that he can't play PC games any more. I agreed to this purchase, since he IS a game designer, and needs to be up-to-date in his field. (This was the same reason I used to buy an iPod -- "hey, libraries are using iPods to download books electronically -- I need one to listen to music!")

Little did I know that he would buy one IMMEDIATELY. Friday night, after doing some tidying in preparation for his parents' visit the next day, he set the damn thing up, got it hooked up to the internet, set up the router so that it could talk to the old computer, and installed City of Heroes.

Saturday, he had our son create a hero of his own (a speedster, as he is apparently quite taken with Flash lately).

I am so screwed.

In other news, I saw a neurologist last week for the headaches I've been having. I've had headaches my entire life -- I remember my doctor telling me in 3rd grade that I suffered from stress headaches. But since November, Voldemort has been hidden inside my skull, striking out against my left temple, down into my left sinus cavity. Recently, certain smells have almost rendered me unconscious with headache and nausea, such as coffee and, oddly enough, goat cheese.

Turns out I suffer from a unique combination of cluster and migraine headaches. I also have tension headaches in my shoulders and neck (surprise, I'm working on a website and my tenure portfolio, and the college server and internet access keeps going down). So, I start physical therapy this week -- yay massage. And I have an MRI this week to rule out organic causes.

On Thursday, I started Topamax. It's supposed to prevent migraines and cluster headaches. It's an odd drug. The first time I took it, I lay awake, feeling like the Joker had attacked me with his special gas -- I giggled maniacally in my head and out loud until 2am. I finally took two Benedryl and two Nighttime Herbal supplements so I could get to sleep. Sleeping has gotten better, but I still have moments of tingles (last night, my face and chest tingled). One guy called this the "Supermodel Drug," because it makes people skinny and stupid. Hubby was amused when I told him this.

Last thing I need when I go up to teach in front of members of the tenure committee is to forget my name and what I'm doing -- this promises to be a fun semester.
